Magistrates this week cleared a taxi driver of two charges (of failing to stop at the scene of and report an accident) after he collided with Robert Worrall and his bicycle on 9 November 2014.
The exact cause of Worrall’s death remains unclear: taxi driver Amir Hussain was involved in a collision, claiming that he thought he had hit a deer, but it was not proven that this collision was the fatal one: the defence argued that the damage to Hussain’s car was consistent with having struck Worrall when he was already on the ground (further details and commentary in the casebook). Surrey Police had earlier arrested a woman in connection with his death, after finding a Land Rover with frontal damaged, but she was not charged.
