Paul Miller was cycling home from his place of work in Yetminster when he was struck by Derek Cheney. A police investigation showed that for at least seven seconds prior to the collision Cheney had full visibility of him and there was no oncoming traffic. Miller was wearing multiple visibility aids, was well-lit, and was wearing a helmet, all of which failed to prevent Cheney from causing the collision and his death. Cheney pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced by magistrates in December 2015.
