Craig Armitage was taking part in an organised event when he was involved in a head-on collision with a driver coming in the opposite direction.
In April 2016 Nicholas Goddard was tried for causing death by careless driving. There was disagreement as to whether marks on the road showed Goddard’s car to be straddling the central line. Goddard had just performed an overtaking manoeuvre and said that the impact occurred after he had completed it and was fully on the correct side of the road; police collision investigator Stuart Langford disagreed, but the defence disputed Langford’s interpretation of the forensic evidence. The jury found Goddard not guilty.
