Claire Hitier-Abadie was crushed under the wheels of a lorry driven by Alan Warwick as he turned left onto Victoria Street. The truck was equipped with external cameras and other aids, but Warwick had not indicated (which meant that the truck’s audible warnings were not activated) and was tidying his cab as he turned.
Warwick pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and in April 2016 he was sentenced to 160 hours’ unpaid work and was banned from driving for 12 months. Mrs Hitier-Abadie’s husband had asked the judge not to jail him.
