Tony Aschroft was cycling on the A510 when he was hit by Angela Willshire, seemingly from behind (though this is not explicitly stated in available reports). He was using a rear light and a high-visibility jacket, and according to investigators Willshire would have had clear visibility of him for over five seconds before the collision.
Willshire’s licence had been revoked by the DVLA and this meant she was also uninsured; however, she only faced a charge of causing death by careless driving. She pleaded guilty and in November 2015 was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment and a two year driving ban.
