Sally Shalloe was crossing the southbound carriageway of Middleton Boulevard at a toucan crossing near Charnock Avenue when she was struck by a motorbike ridden by David Staley. Both were critically injured, but Shalloe’s injuries were to prove fatal. Witnesses stated that Staley had been riding at very high speeds, pulling wheelies and weaving between traffic prior to the collision.
Staley was charged causing death by dangerous driving and immediately banned; he pleaded guilty and in May 2016 was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, and his driving ban was extended to five years commencing from his release.
