In August 2015 an inquest heard that Dennis Dovey was cycling on a footpath alongside the A614 with “traces” of cannabis in his system when, passing under a railway bridge, he fell from his bicycle and struck his head on the ground whilst also being struck by a passing car.
Reports appear conflicted: initial reports quote a police spokesman as saying “the collision took place on the southbound carriageway,” while the report of the inquest states that the driver was heading to Ollerton from Nottingham, which would be northbound. Streetview suggests that the footpath is adjacent to the southbound lane.
Coroner Mairin Casey recorded a verdict of death by road traffic collision.
