An inquest held in November 2015 heard that Kian Gill emerged from Boneham’s Lane into Ullesthorpe Road, heading for Gilmorton, into the path of a car heading in the opposite direction. The driver was unable to stop in time and Kian was struck, hitting the windscreen and being thrown to the roadside.
Assistant coroner Dianne Hocking recorded a verdict of death by road traffic collision. She requested the installation of signage to alert road users to the junction, while senior coroner requested an investigation into safety at the junction, which is on the National Cycle Network.
