Aaron Leggett was “test driving” a Nissan Skyline which he had been servicing as a professional mechanic. A witness said he accelerated rapidly away from a roundabout and investigations found that he reached 48mph in the 30mph limit and was travelling at 43mph when he struck Dumitru Gonta. His injuries were severe and he died in hospital several days later.
Leggett pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and in October 2016 was given 200 hours’ unpaid work and a 9 month sentence suspended for two years, and was ordered to pay Ā£600 costs. He was banned from driving for 18 months.
