In January 2016, Neil Barwick was involved in a collision with Josine van den Berg on a slip road alongside the A11 in January. Barwick suffered back and neck injuries, and van den Berg’s car was written off.
The circumstances of the collision were disputed: Barwick maintained that he had been crossing from one side of the slip road to another, while the driver maintained that he had collided head-on while riding the wrong way down the slip road. The police collision investigator agreed with the driver, and Barwick was found guilty of cycling without due care and attention. He was fined £270 and ordered to pay £200 in costs.
