April Reeves was cycling with her mother and brother when she wobbled and fell from her bicycle. Although she was on a shared footway/cycleway, this was in essence a simple pavement, adjacent to the carriageway which has a 60mph speed limit. She fell into the carriageway and was fatally struck by a passing car.
Senior coroner Maria Voisin recorded a verdict of death by road traffic collision.
April’s parents and others have called for a reduction to the speed limit on the road and for separation between the cycleway and carriageway.
