George O’Hara died when he was struck from behind by Paul Goody’s van on the A78. Visibility was good and O’Hara would have been visible for between 10 and 18 seconds prior to the collision.
Goody pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and in November 2016 Sherriff Shirley Foran sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment, also awarding a three year driving ban, saying that it was “incomprehensible” that he had failed to see O’Hara.
