Ronald Bousted was killed when Paul Brinkman overtook another driver and drove into him.
The driver who was overtaken stated that he had seen Brinkman driving “unnecessarily close” to him four miles before the collision occurred, and that shortly before the collision he thought “don’t overtake now” as he could see Bousted just a short distance ahead.
Brinkman was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, but shortly before his trial he pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and this was accepted by the prosecution.
In March 2017 judge David Farrell sentenced Brinkman to eight months in prison and banned him from driving for two years and four months.
