Colin Taylor was reported to have been struck by a lorry driven by Mark Tuffs, who failed to stop and did not report the collision. Despite the efforts of a following driver, he was declared dead at the scene.
Police released a CCTV image of the Daf CF in order to trace the lorry driver, and the following week arrested Tuffs on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report a collision. The first of these charges was reduced to causing death by careless driving.
