Stephen Wightwick was found in the road and was rushed to hospital but died later the same day.
A large wing mirror was found near the scene of the collision, which is believed to belong to the vehicle involved, thought to be “a small lorry”. After the police traced a vehicle to a compound in Basildon, Justyn Ransley was arrested and bailed, and in August 2017 was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
